Midnight Mermaid

I love Mermaid's.  I will always choose the mermaid's life!  This girl is my favorite...
Magical...mystical... just as every mermaid should be...
I love her on the trunk - guarding the secrets inside.
Did you know a mermaid will NEVER tell your secrets?
I hope you enjoy her too.  I am available to custom paint her for you on your items or mine...

Buy Local, now I get it.

Ok, I get it now.  Buy local.  Buy American.  Support the small business.  Really.  And I really, really get it.  Since I have started my own small business... and have been interacting with other small businesses... I sincerely don't think I will buy from anywhere but local if I can help it.  I remember my first lesson in this... Mr Star and I had just purchased a house and the kitchen was still 1950's.  And not a cute vintagey 1950... a rusted holey metal cabinet with horribly fitting doors and not enough of them!  We go to Home Depot and Lowe's and get estimates on new cabinets... and then we visit a local Specialty kitchen designer/ cabinet maker....We get an estimate and the number comes under our big box estimates!  AND... we have better quality and a much more personal design!

We learned our lesson again here recently with some surfboard purchases.  We were due for some new boards... and Mr. Star purchased a firewire.  Against my advice mind you, but it is new technology and he wanted to try it... We had always purchased our boards from Tim Nolte, a local shaper in OBX (except for the board we traded a 6 pack for... everybody has one of those boards!).  Well, Mr Star wanted to love his new firewire but just couldn't.  So he sold it and went back to Nolte and had two boards shaped for him.

Nolte boards can't be beat.

And yes, you guessed it, paid less than at a fancy surf shop...AND got the boards shaped for Mr. Star's body shape and riding style...AND got to pick the design.

AND in the process got to support a local artist and economy. The absolutely best part of having a board shaped locally??? The ultra cool feeling you get by being able to walk through the shop where it was born.  Nolte's shop is the real deal, I tell my kids each time we go in... "Now THIS is a real surf shop!"
By the way, I must shamelessly now plug Tim Nolte surfboards located in OBX.  Top quality.  Always.  We have a family of his boards and we now refuse to buy any other.  Why fix what isn't broken?

This Holiday season... as you may be making more purchases, keep local artists and businesses in mind.  You are directly supporting our culture and local economy, and everyone wins.

Back to painting some furniture now...

Checkerboard table

One of my favorite pieces lately was my Shells v. Glass checkerboard game table.  What started out a pretty homely table...
Became a great piece with a little imagination!  Coastal Colors Beach Chic Paint (now available online!) in Shore Thing - brightened this little girl right up!  And after some careful measuring and line drawing (to do list:  must get stencil)  I have a fun little game table!

After some serious testing... Mr Star and my Grom have deemed it worthy!
Hope this inspires you today!

Poquoson Seafood Recovery Mode

Yep, I have been down for the count the last couple of days... but WHAT A WEEKEND!!!  I will most definitely be back to the Poquoson Seafood Festival next year.  So well organized, it was a joy to be a part of it!
And special thanks to my personal packing crew for getting me outta there Sunday night.  Just when I thought I couldn't pick up another piece of furniture... in came the reinforcements!  How nice to be able to organize while they (along with Mr Star and Pops in law of course... and my own grom)carried everything back to my trailor for loading.  I hands down had the most and biggest merchandise around me, and I was the first one out!  Whew!
After a delivery to a very special little red head who was awaiting her Jr Mermaid Vanity... we unloaded and fell into the bed.  Very satisfied, but so tired!
Here are some shots of my booth and some fun shots of customers with my laundry sign!

Many items are still waiting adoption, please contact me if you see anything you like... and Poquoson... SEE YA NEXT YEAR!

Show Time!

Getting set up and ready for the Poquoson Seafood Festival yesterday and today.  We open at 5 today for a long glorious weekend!  So much work, but so much gratification when I see all the pieces pulled together and see how well they are showing.  We took a trailor and 3 car loads yesterday, and I am taking one more Star mobile load today... and yes, I still have pieces in my house!  As the house was emptying yesterday it felt so wonderful, until I saw the dirt that had been hiding under everything.  This morning was sweeping, mopping and vaccuuming time!
If you see me at the Festival, make sure you tell me you follow my blog... there will be an advantage to that especially if you follow me on Facebook!  *wink *wink
I will post more pictures later, but here are some set up shots I thought I would share!
Waiting for adoption.

One of my absolutely favorite knobs!

How in the world will I stage all of this?

Anybody think Mr Star and Pops in Law would rather be doing something else?

Frisco the quality supervisor directs from inside.  He doesn't miss a trick.

Summer nite and Summer's fog has quickly become one of my favorite combos.
My Pops In Law is a beast.

Yes the checkerboard table comes with shells and seaglass to play against each other.

Loading dock.  And yes I did have two neighbors in lawn chairs watching the show.

Don't forget my Paint giveaway!  A purchase or Refunk Your Junk Class reservation gets you 5 ballots!  One ballot just for stopping by my booth and making me look popular!

My new mermaid will just have to wait for the next show for her debut.  Hope you stay tuned!
