Seaglass and Dark Wax, O How I Love Thee

At this point, I have painted a few dressers.  Sometimes a paint a few in one day.  But when a dear friend asks you to paint one of her family heirlooms... um, that can be a game changer.
Just moving the dresser made me break out into hives!

I get this pretty little thing in the barn and I stalk it... I circle it.  I prayed over it.
(Well, maybe the prayer was a little selfish - this one was all about me)  We had agreed on a general look but the exact finish, which all finishers know can't be totally planned out, was all on me.

Dear friend's precious family heirloom BEFORE
We knew our colors, from the Coastal Color Beach Chic line we chose Summer's Fog (grey) and Seaglass (navy blue).  The original stain was dark, so I wanted the distressed layers to show as dark/light/dark.
After a good cleaning, I laid on some Summer's Fog.   This happens to be one of my favorite all time neutrals.

After it dried I applied a good coat of Seaglass.
I distressed a bit, I have never been a fan of heavy distressing...
unless we are doing a chippy look that is a

But it needed another texture so I pulled out my Fiddes & Sons Jacobean dark wax.
Top drawer with dark wax, bottom two drawers with the clear. Hard not to love the texture with the dark wax...

Using my large round wax brush, I applied the dark strategically, wiping off as I went.
Crevices... edges... fading from out to in...

Here the piece didn't have much detail, so I added some brush strokes with a large round brush when I painted.  This creates texture for the dark wax to "catch" on.

Here she is all waxed and buffed out.
*Tip - if you are waxing a lot of items, particularly large items... use a buffer brush for your drill.  It is so much faster... and the quality of the buffing far exceeds anything I can do with my hands alone.  If you are interested, I will be adding these soon to Chaffin inventory and the Etsy shop.  Let me know if you want one ordered for you!

After cleaning the hardware and adding it back on... well take a look...

Shabby Chic doesn't have to mean shabby.  This dresser has a very classical look.

Love my Fiddes & Sons products.  This wax is beyond compare with anything else I have tried.

See the Summer's Fog gently peeking through the Seaglass?  I love subtle touches to refinished furniture.
And now she is ready to go home!
