The Day After.. and Some Show Tips!

Poquoson Seafood Festival is over for 2014.  And I am tired and happy.  What a joy to share your craft with a few thousand folks!  What a thrill to have people walk up to your booth and break into a huge smile when they see your colors and your treasures you created!  I can always tell a Coastal Sister by the look of their face as they walk into my booth.  I sense an instant connection.  What an honor for me... so humbling.  My craft is more than a hobby, it is who I am.  It is sharing the ideas in my head for others to see.  It's putting myself on display for others to judge.

Even though I have done a few shows before,  I am continuing to learn about it.  Some of the things I am learning and maybe some tips for customers/shoppers?

As a shopper... Know that you are welcome and it is exciting for us to share our heART with you.  You don't have to like everything.  Artists try to appeal to different tastes.  Try to appreciate things even if you don't "get it"  or at least just keep your negative thoughts... well... thoughts.  I very luckily didn't experience this but a couple of my neighbors did.  Vendors are people too ;)

As an artist... Also be gracious of other's art.  Do NOT take pictures.  Do NOT copy.  I love to learn that I have inspired someone.  It is a big part of what I do, as I am a teacher.  However, take inspiration from other artists but MAKE YOUR OWN ART.
Don't be the artist that goes to pinterest and copies what you see.  Be the artist on pinterest that is inspiring others.  If you are copying other people's ideas, you can only do that for so long.  Allow yourself to create on your own.  You can do it!  Don't walk in someone's booth and say, "I am going to make that".  I know in my instance, I am a beach loving coastal mermaid inspired by light colors and waves and... well that stuff.  Surfboards are a part of my lifestyle and family culture so yes, that is what we produce.  Create what is a reflection of you.

Others know if your art is from you heART or if you are mimicking something cool that you saw.  You will be amazed at what you can come up with on your own.

Next show for Coastal Star is the BODACIOUS BAZAAR November 14-16 in Hampton, VA.  Another 3 day event that I just can't wait to attend.
